About Tesla IPO

Tesla went public on June 29, 2010 at 17 per share. It was the first American car company IPO since Ford in 1956. Tesla had delivered only 147 cars in the year before the IPO. Critics called it a speculative bet on electric vehicles that would never work. Tesla stock rose 40 percent on its first day. The company nearly went bankrupt in 2018 but survived to become the most valuable automaker in the world. Tesla stock peaked at over 400 split adjusted in 2021. Elon Musks compensation package, tied to ambitious milestones, made him the richest person in the world.
