Apple IPO
About Apple IPO
Apple Computer went public on December 12, 1980 at 22 dollars per share. The IPO created more instant millionaires, about 300, than any previous public offering. The stock rose 32 percent on its first day. Apple had been founded just four years earlier by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in a garage. The IPO valued Apple at 1.2 billion dollars. Apple later became the first US company to reach 1 trillion, 2 trillion, and 3 trillion dollar market capitalizations. A single share purchased at the IPO price, adjusted for splits, would be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars today.
