About Google IPO
Google went public on August 19, 2004 using a unique Dutch auction method at 85 dollars per share. The auction was designed to democratize the IPO process and avoid the traditional Wall Street underpricing. The IPO raised 1.67 billion dollars, valuing Google at 23 billion. Google had been founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin as Stanford PhD students in 1998. The company reorganized as Alphabet in 2015. Google became one of the most valuable companies in history, with a market cap exceeding 2 trillion dollars.
