About Worcester vs Georgia Gold

The Georgia Gold Rush of 1829 was the first major gold rush in the United States, twenty years before California. Gold was discovered on Cherokee land in north Georgia. The influx of miners led to the Indian Removal Act of 1830 and the Trail of Tears. The gold rush created a mint in Dahlonega, Georgia that operated from 1838 to 1861. Georgia gold coins are rare and valuable today. The gold rush contributed to Andrew Jacksons war on the Bank of the United States, as Jackson opposed paper money and favored hard currency. The Dahlonega mint produced coins valued at over 6 million before closing during the Civil War.
