NASDAQ
About NASDAQ
The worlds first electronic stock exchange, founded on February 8, 1971. NASDAQ originally stood for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations. Unlike traditional exchanges with physical trading floors, NASDAQ used computer networks from the start. It became the home of technology companies, including Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Meta. NASDAQ overtook the NYSE in listed market capitalization during the dot com boom. The NASDAQ Composite index is closely watched as a barometer of the technology sector. It reached 5,000 in 2000, fell to 1,100 by 2002, and eventually surpassed 15,000.
