About Singapore Sovereign Wealth
The Government of Singapore Investment Corporation was founded in 1981 by Lee Kuan Yew to manage Singapores foreign reserves. GIC manages over 700 billion in assets. Singapore also operates Temasek Holdings, founded in 1974, managing 400 billion. Together these sovereign wealth funds make Singapore one of the largest state investors globally. They hold stakes in major companies across banking, telecommunications, real estate, and technology. Singapore sovereign wealth has been praised for transparency and strong returns. The model has been copied by other nations including China and Gulf states. Lee Kuan Yew personally oversaw GIC investments for decades.
