Jim Simons Renaissance
About Jim Simons Renaissance
Jim Simons, a mathematician and former NSA codebreaker, founded Renaissance Technologies in 1982. The Medallion Fund, launched in 1988, achieved returns of over 60 percent annually before fees for 30 years, the greatest investment record in history. Simons hired mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists rather than finance professionals. Renaissance pioneered statistical arbitrage and machine learning in trading. The Medallion Fund is closed to outside investors and capped at 10 billion because of capacity constraints. Renaissance employees must sign extreme non disclosure agreements. Simons died in 2024. The secret of Medallions success has never been fully revealed, though it involves massive data analysis, pattern recognition, and short holding periods.
