Hong Kong Stock Exchange
About Hong Kong Stock Exchange
The Hong Kong Stock Exchange traces its origins to the Association of Stockbrokers in Hong Kong, founded in 1891. Hong Kong became the primary gateway for international investment into China. The exchange lists many Chinese companies through the H-share system. Hong Kongs Hang Seng Index is the primary benchmark for Asian markets. Political unrest in 2019 and the 2020 national security law raised concerns about Hong Kongs autonomy and financial center status. Despite these concerns, HKEX remains one of the largest exchanges globally and the primary listing venue for Chinese companies seeking international capital.
