About Eurozone Crisis Detail
The Eurozone crisis lasted from 2010 to 2014. It started with Greece, then spread to Ireland, Portugal, Spain, and Cyprus. Each country required EU and IMF bailouts with stringent austerity conditions. Unemployment in Spain and Greece exceeded 25 percent. Youth unemployment reached 50 percent. The crisis tested European solidarity and nearly broke the euro. ECB President Mario Draghis whatever it takes promise in 2012 was the turning point. The crisis led to the European Stability Mechanism, the Banking Union, and tighter fiscal rules. The economic and social scars lasted for years.
