About Enclosure Acts Bubble

A period of intense land speculation during the Parliamentary Enclosure Acts from 1750 to 1860. Common lands were privatized, forcing millions of rural people into cities. Large landowners profited enormously while tenant farmers and agricultural workers lost their livelihoods. The Enclosure Acts provided capital for the Agricultural and Industrial Revolutions but caused enormous social disruption. The acts enclosed over 6 million acres of common land. The displaced rural population formed the workforce for Britains factories. Karl Marx cited enclosure as a key example of primitive accumulation of capital.
