About Crowdfunding Revolution

Crowdfunding emerged in the late 2000s as a new way to raise capital. Kickstarter, founded in 2009, allowed creators to raise money from individual backers. Indiegogo preceded it in 2008. Equity crowdfunding platforms like SeedInvest and Crowdcube allowed non accredited investors to buy startup equity for the first time. The JOBS Act of 2012 legalized equity crowdfunding in the US. GoFundMe became the dominant platform for personal fundraising. By 2024, the global crowdfunding market exceeded 20 billion annually. Crowdfunding democratized access to capital for projects that traditional investors rejected, though many funded projects failed to deliver and investor protections remained limited.
