Bloomberg Terminal
About Bloomberg Terminal
The Bloomberg Terminal was launched in 1982 by Michael Bloomberg after he was laid off from Salomon Brothers. The terminal provided real time financial data, news, and analytics. It revolutionized how financial professionals accessed information. Each terminal costs approximately 24,000 to 30,000 annually. By 2024, over 325,000 terminals were in use worldwide, generating over 10 billion in revenue. The terminal became so essential that it defined the financial industry. Competitors including Reuters, FactSet, and S&P Capital IQ never matched its dominance. Bloomberg used his terminal fortune to become mayor of New York City and a major philanthropist. The terminal interface, with its black and orange text, remains instantly recognizable.
